How old is too old?
Age alone isn’t the problem. The real risk starts when a device stops getting security updates. Here are the rules of thumb we use in every report.
Wi-Fi Router / Firewall
Or as soon as the maker stops releasing firmware. ISP-provided units are often the oldest thing on the network.
4–5 yrs
Windows PC / Laptop
Must run a supported Windows. Windows 10 consumer security updates (ESU) end October 13, 2026.
4–6 yrs
Mac
Apple generally patches the current macOS plus the two before it. Older versions stop receiving fixes.
5–7 yrs
Phones & Tablets
Check the maker’s update window. Many Androids get far fewer years than iPhones.
Until updates stop
Cameras & NVR / DVR
Sooner if firmware is abandoned or the brand is under FCC restrictions.
5–7 yrs
NAS & Backup Drives
Hard drives wear out. Watch drive health and keep a second copy off-site.
3–5 yrs
UPS Batteries
A UPS with a tired battery quits at the moment the power goes out.

Never send passwords by email, text, or this form. For anything that needs a login (like your router), you’ll type it in yourself while we’re with you, on-site or on a remote session you control.

How long does it take?
Most home and small-office checkups take about an hour. Larger offices take longer, and we’ll tell you up front.

Will you change anything on my network?
Not without asking. The checkup is look-don’t-touch. Our scans are non-intrusive, and any fixes happen only after you approve them.

Is this for homes or businesses?
Both. Home networks with cameras and smart devices need the same care as a small office, and for a remote worker they’re often the same network.
